I have a collection of old coins from the 1800-1900 pennies, shillings, florins, etc. I was just wondering what we should clean them with if they should be cleaned.

Just sold a bunch of old coins. A friend of mine that belongs to a coin club told me not to clean them. Took them to a coin dealer at a shop nearby who bot them. He also said it is best not to clean them. It should be done by a professional. Using stuff like toothpaste, cleanser, etc. can be abrasive and ruin the coins. Other liquids can do the same thing to old coins. So don't clean them. Verify this by going to a coin retailer.

You'll want to be very careful about what you use to clean old coins, as you may devalue them... Here is a link that should help you figure out the right way:

Hope this helps!

DO NOT CLEAN THEM!!!!
If you clean old coins they will lose their value;
Get a coin book and look in it.

If you want to sell the coins to a numismatist, do not clean them. It will reduce their value.
