In the power steering unit? Perhaps.
ATF Type F is the same as Power Steering Fluid. It was something FORD tried in the older Transmissions but it didn't catch on. One fluid for both the PS & Trans.
Dexron/Mercon are differant then Type F. It could work fine or not.
I wouldn't suggest anything in the transmission except what the manufacturer calls for.

LISTEN UP! ATF and Power steering fluid is two VERY different oils. Yes if you really want to use ATF as Power steering fluid you can. However it will eat you power steering lines. And you'll half to replace the line every now and then. Which mean costing you more money.
No! you shouldn't use any oils other then atf for your transmission. Using the wrong fluids WILL cost you MORE MONEY, then if you used the correct oils in the first place.
FYI Some one said you can use aft as brake fluid. This is also a stupid idea.
Brake fluid
–noun Automotive.
the fluid used in a brake system to transmit pressure from the brake pedal to the pistons at each wheel, producing the braking action.
transmission OIL is a lubricant, not for pressure.
Just as motor oil is to keep your engine running atf does the same for your transmission with ATF.
Power Steering Fluid is an hydraulic fluid not a lubricant. "NO YOU CANT SUBSTITUTE IT WITH BRAKE FLUID!"
If you want to save money in the long run. Do it the way the book says to, or else you'll spend more money on it!!!
I challenge any one to prove me wrong.

It would depend on what you are doing with it... But... aren't they both pretty sticky? I prefer a water based lube, myself.
