After the first couple or maybe three times, you need to take the hint, and realize the people you are talking to understand perfectly what you are saying and simply Do Not Care.

Give up. You do not have control over what other people do. The only one you can really change is yourself.

Sometimes the best you can do is to say it a lot of different ways, and maybe some will pick up your meaning one way, some another.

But about the paying attention, that's another story. There are some people who have such a short attention span that you cannot say anything long or complicated. The most you can do is talk in little sound bite cliches.

Hi Moon. This is a great question, both serious and funny. Several times I told my teenage stepson that he sounded like an old person because he would ask the same question over and over again, at 20 minute intervals: "No. The answer is not going to change when you ask me again 20 minutes from now."
On the other hand, I find that a lot of time people who are close to me do not listen really well, as I would expect them to. I guess my presentation was bad, or perhaps they were focused on something else when I told them something. Sometimes you just need to get up in their face nicely - so there are no other distractions - and they can hear you. Sometimes people are just plain stubborn. I know I can be that way.If something is important to you and you need to communicate that, it helps to tell them that it is important to you.
Have a great weekend too!

Hi Moon,
I think it really depends on the person. Sometimes you don't have to say anything and a person can sense/read between the lines and they will 'just know'.
Other people aren't as sensitive. Some people will have a different kind of mind-set and will see things differently and won't understand where you're coming from. It will take time for them to figure out what you're trying to say.
Some people just don't pay attention and say they understand when they don't. Some people just aren't interested. I think that's why we tend to gravitate at times, towards those who are like-minded and who do understand.
Have a good day Moon,
Polly

Would you kindly ask your question again if you don't mind?

Never mind I read it over, and over finally got it.

I say it once, if they don't understand or they don't pay attention it is their problem, and their loss. For example, if I did not understand your question finally, I would have lost 2 points, since I would not have gained the 2 points. Therefore, it would be my loss.

I suppose as many times as YOU say, "Thank you for your answer! :) Have a wonderful day/night/weekend! :)". People are usually too busy with their own points of INTEREST to pay much attention to others - unless of course, we can somehow gain their inherent interest, or else they mean to sell us something or send us a bill to pay (in which case, you don't even have to utter a word). :-)

Sometimes twice. Repeating the same thing requires full attention from the receiver. That's were lies the problem of communication if it is a one-way traffic.

I think I can usually tell from the start if someone even WANTS to understand, or pay attention, & repeating would just be futile. If it were someone close to me, & we needed to resolve a misunderstanding, I'd listen & expect a mutual dialogue. If it were some kind of emergency, say, someone started to cross the street & I saw they were going to be run down by a herd of aardvarks, I guess I'd yell: STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP!...(oops, SPLAT!)

An infinite number of times.

Some people never learn, not even the hard way. They are like birds that repeatedly fly into a glass window in which they can see their reflection. They are too concerned about themselves and the moment to conceive of anything else.

one should never say the same thing twice, unless you are not paying attention to the feedback from your audience. either it get's through the first time, or you must make changes based on the receiver feedback. saying the same thing twice is like thinking that yelling bridges the language barrier.
