The way I know when I get cramps is when I feel like someone is punching me in the area below my navel. The area below the navel but a bit above the area where all the pubic hair is, is where the uterus is located.

With hunger pain I will notice it higher up around the center of my body (which is where the stomach is).

Period cramps can make you feel like you have to go poop all the time...just the uncomfortabe kind like diareah. That's what mine normally feel like...but my discomfort only lasts the first two days of my period until heavy bleeding starts...then I don't have anymore pain.

All women are different. Some cramp so bad that they can't move...others don't cramp at all, just have an uncomfortable sensations, like me. It all depends on your body, and the levels of the contractions your uterus has to expell the inner lining. If your uterus contracts harder and more frequently, you'll have worse cramps..If it doesn't, you might not experience any pain at all.

Good luck

well PMS cramps are usually almost a dull, hallow achey feeling.
i tend to get them in my lower back.
a tylenol or asprin will help to decrease the pain.
other syptoms of periods is:
discharge (thick pasty white stuff) for more than one year (it usually turns a yellowish tinge before your period)
breast tenderness (thats usually always a sign for me)
bloating (feeling like you gain 5 pounds in a day. you might find that you cant fit into your jeans, i suggest wearing sweat pants!)
extrememly emotional (since your hormones are going hay-wire before that time of the month, sometimes even the slightest mishap will make you want to cry)

well, if you start soon, i welcome you to the wonderful world of periods and womanhood...ok, not that wonderful, but you'll get used to it after a while and you'll find remedys made for you that work. and, sometimes people don't even get PMS! so hope that you are going to be in that lucky bunch =]
oh, and if you think you are going to be starting, make sure you have pads in the house and when school starts, make sure you carry around a few in a makeup bag in your backpack or locker.
good luck!

Period cramps are felt lower in the abdomen. From where your ovaries are located.
