I understand in other countries like the philippines or portugal, they do broadcast Sunday morning mass on their national television networks. If those two conuntries do it, then why can't the United States do it for the Sunday morning lineup on tv?

Most religions have broadcasts on Sunday just not Catholic Mass. Here in LA we have two broadcasts of Catholic Mass. Then there are other religious Christian programs throughout Sunday morning as well.

The United States represent freedom of religion. We all get to choose what we watch and if Catholic Mass is what we want we certainly can watch it. We don;t endorse any religion therefore we show no favoritism for one type of religious service versus another. That is why Ecumenical services are broadcast along with Mass.

Many people who cannot get to church truly rely on this.

Then late on Saturday night/early Sunday Morning, they broadcast Catholic Mass from the Vatican with the Pope celebrating Mass......live.

ABC, CBS, NBC all participate in various religious broadcasts as do many of the other networks. I don't know where you live but here we have it here. Consult your local listings and call your cable provider.

If you do not already have cable, then you should inquire as it is readily available through ours here in Los Angeles and I know that other cities and states have the same thing available. Some even have purely religious channels.

Try asking that question pre-1961. I'm sure the answer would be rather one-sided against the notion.

While not virulently anti-Catholic anymore, I highly doubt the national networks would today broadcast Catholic services at the expense of other denominations. They'd rather stay out of it.

Plus, "Meet the Press" and "This Week" with Tim and George are quasi-churches with devoted followings of their own, no? lol. Can't interrupt /those/ services!

1. Some stations do broadcast masses.
2. Your usage of the term national television networks is imprecise. Some nations have state-run TV networks such as, to some extent, PBS in the US. This means it's national. It's also "nation-wide". IMO, no federally-funded media outlets should be allowed to broadcast any religious services if, as in the US, there are laws ensuring the separation of church and state. Other countries have different rules and mores, so I guess it's up to them to decide. However, as an atheist, I must say that it would be unfortunate if other countries started using federally-funded media outlets to promote one religion--even the state religion--over another.

I don't think it would be a good idea due to freedom of religion in this country. That sounds more appropriate for a religious network.

I doubt there are enough Roman Catholics in the USA that would be interested in watching them to tempt advertisers to sponsor it.
