So if the global market trading OPEC (oil/gas) were to change from US Dollars to Euro’s (Saddam publicly attempted this) and the result was US economic depression and the loss of World Power and global money market control with US Dollars - does this justify the War in Iraq (and soon to be Iran if they try to sell oil in Euro's)?

Believing America would crumble without preserving the global sale of Oil in US Dollars; do YOU BELIEVE the War is worth the preservation of the US Dollar, America, and the "Western" way of life?

Be honest....

If your Country would crumble, your State, County, City, friends, family, and all American society as a whole were to crumble to economic loss –

- would you go to War and take back control of 2/3’s the world’s oil reserves and mandate the sale is US Dollars to prevent the economic destruction of America? Does the US need to "print" and "own" the worlds oil currency - US Dollar - to survive.

If not, what would you do?

Thanks for your opinion

No, it's not worth it. The threat from other economies may come like this:
Switching to Euros to keep their savings and/or
Switching to Euros as payment for their oil or other products.

Switching to Euros may be caused by an eroding confidence in the US dollar. That in turn being caused by a huge trade deficit and a huge budget deficit.

We are spending $12 billion a month in Iraq and that money is being borrow from foreigners (countries and individuals) among others.

I think you're painting too bleak a scenario. The dollar is already reaching record lows everywhere except China where the Government engages in currency manipulation to keep their products competitive. The US economy is undeniably hurting, but far from crumbling.

A Euro market for oil would only hurt the Oil Companies, The Stock Market and Currency speculators who all depend on Inflation to make a profit. Some small investors could be wiped out if they failed to read the handwriting on the wall, or only read the new Murdochized Wall Street Journal, but the underlying economy would remain sound.

The Dollar isn't backed by Oil. It's backed by corn, soybeans, copyrights and patents. A return of Fiscal Responsibility to Government would be enough to ward off a depression. And the loss of a couple trillion in the Stock Market would help cut the inflation rate tremendously.

America wouldnt crumble? The fact is we dont need to rely on any foreign oil at all when we are sitting on top on the largest oil reserve ever discovered to date under the Rocky Mountains (Shhhh....its a secret dont tell anyone!), but it has not as yet been tapped!
Without fuel burning vehicles, nearly every oil producing nation in the world (except the USA) would collapse because their economies are solely reliant on the export of oil , the USA is not!
We have our own brilliant inventor in a retired tv station owner John Kanzius, who was attempting to find a cure for cancer and instead discovered a saltwater fuel. There is no larger resource on the planet than saltwater! I have an incredible video (about 3 minutes long) that a friend emailed to me. I'll be happy to email it (if possible) to the first 10 people who ask me for it and then they in turn can share it with someone! Just put in the email subject line "send me the video" so I know its not spam mail.

I don't think that America would crumble at all. We have the free enterprise system that would come up with alternatives to any product because we also have citizens who can afford to buy things. All those other countries would probably suffer more than anything. Last I heard we have huge amounts of oil in Alaska but we are not allowed to go after them because of the Al Gores in the world. I'm really tired of people saying that we're in this for the oil and then in the same breath complain about Bush being in the oil business. Don't you think that there is a much bigger plan in mind? Do we have that little faith in our elected officials that these plans have to go through?

I think you might be overestimating the amount of oil in the Middle East.

I believe now Russia holds the largest part of the world's oil reserves, as do Canada and the United States. Canada and Russia, however, have oil in places from which it is more difficult to retrieve.

Were we to tap into ANWR, we might be able to cut off all OPEC oil sources. Unfortunately, sources are still unclear as to exactly how much oil lies in ANWR (we can't really tell for sure until we've drilled there,) and seeing as it is indeed a wildlife refuge it is understandable that people would not want to drill there.

EDIT: And to those who recommend finding better energy sources, I will point out that nuclear energy is far less polluting than oil, and yet environmentalists refuse to accept it. Hydrogen cars will only concentrate the consumption of oil into the hydrogen plants, and will not decrease oil's overall use unless another alternative source, such as nuclear energy, is employed. Obviously, fusion power would be the proverbial panacea, however the efficient acquisition of that power source still eludes us.

interesting question, i do not believe that trading the oil in euro would crash US's market for long that would only force our government to lean the way Brazil and other countries have gone by funding alternative fuel sources research this of course would revitalize the economy and new growth always kick starts the economy so being a flexable nation( we can change our way of life and have many times) we will bounce back To believe that only 1 resource controls the whole economy is short sighted right now our economy is in a slump and it has nothing to do with oil, it has every thing to do with real estate very interesting question but relatively narrow sighted ( not narrow minded though)

I have heard that as well. The sanctions were working to keep Saddam in check. The intelligence used to promote the war was old. He was definitely selling his oil against the rules of the sanctions and was selling it in Euros.

The U.S. needs to get off of oil. France is manufacturing a car with an engine that runs on compressed air. They presently are using buses and cabs that use these engines. Why aren't we into this technology. Imagine how quickly we would reduce our oil usage. These cars are also cheap. Ugly though but who cares?

its a pretty good question but your being a little biased i think i mean if you are to argue that then isn't it fair to say we all have equal right to fight and kill for oil, personally i don't think so but I'm not convinced by all the "we are the world" bull crap that all the democrats and liberals would have you believe. to put it all in perspective though i believe that this whole thing about war on terror and fighting for the oil is all a distraction from the real evil, misdirection Siegfried and Roy taught us that. a great saying that has been used throughout time is "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing the world he didn't exist", this is a thought i have trouble escaping. anyway here is a link to a site that has allot of interesting "facts" about oil consumption in the world and possible consequences in the future.

We have gigantic oil reserves here in North America. We can pull out of the world economy and become self sufficient if we really wanted to. Quit giving banks so much power and do away with the federal reserve.

Sure, let's kill a few thousand more civilians and create a few thousand more orphans, some of them gravely injured. Let's let the American soldiers crawl through the heat while the sheiks and the faux "presidents" take vacations. Let's continue our Crusade, because we all know God is on our side, and the Second Coming will be a huge spurt of that black fossil fuel.

A better question might be..."Am I willing to die for a tankful of oil?"
