True powers like that have constantly been abused thought history. One understandable reason for why to allow it would be if the person was an arms dealer or someone who contributes to a terrorist act by raising money, coordinate any aspect of an attack like the series 24.What bush said about drug dealers helping terrorist is an example of this, they sell a product to gain money knowing that somewhere else somebody had to suffer to make their money, by someone they work with who does these awful things. Like heroine from Afghanistan.

That's not the term. It's "illegal combatant". It's defined in the Rules of Land Warfare (also known as the Geneva Conventions) as one who doesn't belong to a national army, has no defineable chain of command, does not wear a distinctive uniform and does not openly brandish a weapon. If he meets all of those criteria he is an illegal combatant. And those being held are quite lucky. The same Rules of Land Warfare do not dictate that such individuals be taken alive or given any solace off the battlefield.

There is no such designation under the Geneva Conventions.

There is however, "illegal combatant" which the terrorists come under. And they are getting their "basic human rights" of shelter, clothing, food and are allowed to practice their faith (except the part about jihad.) What they are being denied is their right to shoot people and blow them up.

No wonder they are so pissed off.

He doesn't want any of them to go to court because then a determination can be made and they would be released. His IQ isn't even that high on the best acceptable test. Even with 100 as the top score he would be less than a 20!

They do; just not the Geneva Convention rights that apply only to uniformed combatants.

BTW: President Bush's IQ is estimated at 116. Please don't assume your's is what everyone else's is.

That's problem and I think they got some ongoing court thing. I know US supreme court decided to hear cases involving detainees challenging their detention at GITMO. They actually won some cases, but Bush administration keep setting up more and more legal blocks. It'll be interesting to see how far the fight goes. They'll probably end up facing shooting squad. Entirely made of Dick Cheney and his shotgun.
