Ever wonder why rappers have to become producers or actors after a relatively brief career at the top? It's because they run out of things to say and start repeating themselves.

Rock musicians have relatively little to say, verbally, but their musical ideas and skills can keep them going.

Rappers usually don't have instruments, so to expand their music they have to get into production -- or just quit and act (which is fine by them if it was really about money and fame anyway).

The R&B/Rappers can have it both ways, and I think I should be able to have it both ways with your question: I like what I consider to be the best of both rock and rap, and discard the immense load of junk that remains. I am also one of those who believes that rap is mostly responsible for getting rock bands to re-emphasize lyrics. It was good for everybody.

rap means more than rock? lol. yes, cause outside peanut butter inside jelly is really an anology for life. no rock is way better for the most part. rap doesn't even mean anything anymore. rock has better lyrics and i'd take the squeal of an electric guitar over the sounds of a pinball machine anyday. however, there are a few rappers i respect and that is a very few. i respect DMX and Tupac. because they're singing about life. I also hate Nickelback cause they're nothing but a gimmick of rock and rollers.

Rock is a musical genre. Rap is performance art. No less valid as an artistic form of expression, but in the strictest sense, I wouldn't call it music. There's too much left out. Like melody, harmony, singing and musicians who have bled for their craft. Musicians who actually play musical instruments. Rock On!!!!

Hell yeah rock all the way!! With rap, you cant understand a word people are saying, all they talk about are girls, cars, and money, and you cant tell one video from another! rap is just obnoxious. They only rap i like is Fort Minor. (Mike Shinoda's solo album.) His lyrics are actually intelegent and have meaning and they use real instruments! and you can understand what he's saying lol

I really hate rap, everytime I go to a school dance they play rap, and it gets so old, I wish they would play rock at a dance, it would be more fun for alot of people.

but yea I hat rap, and rock is the coolest thing ever, though I only like one rap song and its old, the one that goes, "can't touch this, de ne ne ne!" lol

I think it really depends on who exactly is making the music. For me, it's artist.. Not genre. Therefore, I like some rap.. And I like some rock too.
Overall, however, I'd have to say most of the music I like can be found under "rock" and all its subgenre.

Definately.

I used to listen to rap, but once I got into rock, it was wayyyyy better than a bunch of people talking fast.

ya i like rock better. the songs are unique and not all the same, people are actually singing and not just talking really fast, its got a rhythm thats real and not computer generated, they play their own instruments, they have REAL voice (coudhTPAINcough). rock music has a deeper meaning then most people can understand, and rap is all about, drugs, sex, fighting and violence, and treating girls and women like we're some kind of object and not real human beings like we ARE rappers treat women bad to, and im not saying all rockstars are saints, but they don't go around treating women like some rappers do!

They are both good. I have a lot more rock ony my playlist because hip-hop went to crap in a short time. Hence why I don't have any rap from the past 10 years.
