Focus on something you're good at that nobody else is as good at and focus on that, so that the coach sees that he needs somebody who has your abilities. If you're an all-around player, then focus on everything, because there's gotta be something you can do to contribute to the team and trust me, the coach will notice this.

Although practicing is certainly the way to make a basketball team, but you must know what to practice on and how to practice it. First, you must understand your strengths and weaknesses. Focus primarily on your weaknesses and address your weaknesses later. Before the tryouts, practice as often as you can, play in games, because in games situations will be valuable to your training. At first, it might be frustrating as you may not be skilled as the other players. But you first must struggle before you can successfully achieve your goals. Every professional athlete has been through this stage, including Michael Jordan. During his Sophomore year at high school, Jordan had seeked to make the Varsity team. But the coach thought he was too short. Jordan played JV that year, but averaged around 30 points per game. At the end of the season, the best JV players usually were invited, but he wasn't. He trained harder, and became the best player on the Varsity team next year. After this, he continued to work, for recruiting coaches barely knew his name. He then attended a Five Star Basketball camp, outplaying names like Patrick Ewing, but paved his way to UNC. Jordan is now a household name, I needn't tell the story from there. Jordan shows how practicing everyday, even if is an hour or two, can accumulate to build skill and confidence. There is no secret to becomming a good or even great basketball player which is widely known as practice, but you must do it hard and with passion.

First look up for a good unselfish playmaker, who will be able to organize the attack and mae a good passes to the other players. Than go and improve the teams defence, a center who will be able to grab amny rebounds, and block many shots or lay-ups. Put someone in the team with a good shooting touch. If anyone works in your team alone, than he is not your best choise. There is no ,, me '' in a game like basketball.
