Really thought provoking question....?

Question

Which of these would have a harder time JUST factoring in weather elements?

Take an Eskimo and put him somewhere hot and humid (say, the heart of Africa) or take a tribal African and put him in the Artic? Also, they will be taken to the other extreme climate in the dead of the season. Eskimo to Africa in July and the African to the Artic in January. The natives at the place they're being transplanted to WILL have proper clothing for them. Which one will have a harder time living? Will the Eskimo have more trouble with the scorching heat and the unbearable humidity? Or will the tribal African have more trouble in the bitter cold?

I live in East Texas so I can't stand cold weather. But good answers so far. Oh, and to the 1st answerer, Eskimos are native to the Artic. ; ). Just a heads up.

I would have to say that the Eskimo would have a much harder time than the African.

It's possible to mitigate against the effects of cold weather far more easily than it is to mitigate against the effects of hot weather.

If it's cold you only need to put on more clothing but when it's hot there's a limit to how much you can take off.

I've been to some incredibly cold places including the Polar regions and summits of very high mountains, the extreme cold has all sorts of strange effects but there are ways and means of getting round them and providing you've got the proper clothing it's not too much of a problem.

Similarly I've been to some extremely hot places in Africa and there's not a great deal you can do other than drink lots of water, expend as little energy as possible and take cold showers whenever the opportunity arises.

Tribal african due to amount of body fat accumulated in their bodies. While the eskimo will have not much problem shedding the fat, it takes much difference to gain the proper amount of insulating fat for the african.

Despite the fact that they have the correct clothing and everything, the african will freeze if suddenly transported like that. (Think Pirates of the Carribean, the poor guy who's toe broke off due to frost bite)

OOh fun Q. I would have to say the tribunal African because they have never seen such cold weather before and would have a really hard time adjusting if they can make it.

The Eskimo wouldn't be quite as bad because he would be getting warmer and could drink lots of water

The tribal African will have more trouble because you did not say that the Eskimo's will have proper clothing for the African.

I was raised in a very cold weather and now I like in very hot weather, I suffer, but I still can manage.
My wife is the opposite, and she can't stand cold weather.

I would say the person who goes from very hot weather to very cold weather is going to have more trouble.

i think they will both have an equal struggle in adapting in their new environment
