Bandicoot, you've absolutely nailed it in one!
The very definition of terrorism is the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.
It is my opinion that the Bush administration used the American people's fear of more terrorist acts to push through legislation such as the PATRIOT Act that has severely eroded our precious civil liberties.
As the quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin says, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety, and ultimately will have neither."

You got that right. Any time the Bush Administration gets in trouble they start screaming the terrorist are attacking from behind every lamp post and mail box. Nothing but out and out fear mongering at it's worst.
What was it? Only a few months ago the Bush Administration was saying we had La Qaeda almost defeated all their leaders killed etc.
Then Congress starts debating bills to get us out of Iraq. Suddenly new terrorist reports. La Qaeda has regrouped and rebuilt and is stronger than ever. AND! AND! planning multipule attacks on U.S. if we don't stay in Iraq. They are going to destroy us.
Ha! Ha! They pull that crap everytime they get in trouble with Congress and the American people over the war.
Factly the American people are getting sick of it. They've cried wolf one too many times.

Well, as the name implies, all of terrorism is fear-mongering--that's where the "terror" part comes in. America's response to terrorism has been pathetic. I remember the colour-coded warning alerts--does anybody do them anymore or are we relying on some official's gut? The Bush administration has also used the terrorism threat as a way of getting away with a lot of things that they normally wouldn't get away with.

That's the whole idea. Randomly kill people at any place, any time, any where in order to create an incessant fear that will cause the population to cringe and be afraid to do what needs being done. So, I agree. Terror attacks should be completely ignored rather then use them to combat complacency.

the most interesting thing to me is how they have done it ... in essence they 'duped' us into believing in this war ... and they did it with language ... terrorism isnt a place, its a tactic
... so we are left to fear everything and anything they want us to fear
