I think women used to use rags and cloths on their periods. As far as toilet paper goes, I'd have to say the same. Toothpaste and deodorant didn't exist. Hygiene was much different back then.

I don't know about the first item on the list, but for the rest, in order, old sears catalogs or corn husks; salt or baking soda; and lye soap and talcum powder. I got this info from my granny and other older people I have talked with over the years. Pretty primitive, but that's all they had then. Aren't we lucky now.

well for maxi pads, they used pieces of cloth that they wash afterwards, the same for toilet paper. to freshen their breath, they chewed mint leaves and for deodorant they used fragrant oils from plants, the same way perfumes and cologne are used today.

They stinked!!

Imagine being in a wagon train with all those stinky people afraid of a little bit of water for several months...peeeuuu!!

They used corn cobs and twigs and smelled bad. In the same order as the question.

thats why in some places women were put in "huts" during their time of the month because they were unclean but you know their men had to STINK and be dirty too
