If i were to guess, the answer might be the same reason why people formulate opinions without doing any research.
I mean, his story makes a lot of sense, he failed 1out of 20 tests last year (and has been repeatedly tested since then and has passed them all). It was documented that he did switch his supplement just 2 weeks prior to his failed drug test. Theres enough to give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't attempting cheat and theres also no way he could have been taking anything long enough to improve his performance. To people just look for people to pick on?

People who still consider merriman a cheater are basically naive, ignorant, and just flat out stupid. The guy has taken approximately 45 tests in his 2 YEAR career and failed 1 of them. So even if he was intentionally using steroids, theres no way there would have been enough time for him to benefit from them. plus, he switched supplements 2 weeks b4 he tested positive, hmmm, coincidence? Lastly, the guy is just a great person and is one of the most generous guys off the field that you will ever see. I'm a niner fan but i met merriman in person. I have tremendous respect for him, and i especially have respect for the way hes handled this situation. He's learned from his mistake, and i'm sure it wont happen again. He'll be the greatest defensive player ever. the kid is 22 years old!!!! FU to all who disrespect him.
PS: the guy below is commenting on an issue he doesnt know anything about. Again, Ignorance. Know your sh*t before you say anything.

If they can call Barry Bonds a cheater and he never failed a test Merriman is bound to be labeled a cheat. As for the excuse that he changed supplements give me a break with millions of dollars on the line you would think he would be more careful.

Ok he failed a drug test (1 out of 20 test is still more then 98% of the other NFL players failed last year), most NFL players have not failed a drug test. He is a cheater it has been proven. Don't worry we have a cheater on our team to John Welbourne. How can you say he didn't cheat its been proven. How can you defend him for failing a test. His situation is even different then Bonds because he failed a test. I also believe Bonds cheated to, but at least his fans can argue he has not failed a test. There is no denying the facts that Merriman cheated. I hope he gets caught again so you will have to defend him again. I just don't see your logic in defending a proven cheater.

Whether accidental (that's is the old stand by excuse) or intentional, whether once or 20 times, Merriman got busted with steroids in his system and that is cheating. OK so let's give him the benefit of doubt and say it was accidental, then he's an idiot. Which do you prefer? An idiot or a cheater?

They call him a cheater because of the steroid allegations. I think he did get the benefit of the doubt because they did not stop him from playing in the Pro Bowl. He is still young and if he never tests positive again the cheater label should go away. Anyway you look at it he is a hell of a good player.

Ah, I think its just the quarterbacks who he hit so hard that started rumors, so they wouldn't get hit again...
Actually I'm much angrier about any negative comments Hollis Thomas, the former Eagle and current Saints DT who got "busted" for steroids. The poor guy was just taking some meds for his asthma, he'd let the league know what kind of medicine he was taking, and then later BAM the league suspends him. When class acts like Hollis can get suspended for this kind of thing, then it should give guys like Merriman some more lee-way when they say it was a mistake.

i dont think merriman is a cheater. as you said, he passed 19/20 tests over his career. taking steroids ONCE really doesn't help you at all, for steroids to be effective you have to take them routinely. as those tests show, he didnt take them routinely. i believe him when he says it was the supplement. go boltz!

everyone can call him what they want. more and more guys are getting suspended for steroids. only difference is, these other guys suck. merriman is just another reason for non-bolt fans to hate such a great team. i tell you this, if merriman was on their favorite team, they wouldn't care what he took, as long as he plays. GO BOLTS!!!!

Where is the lawsuit against those who provided him with the supplements? He promised one. No suit.
This suggests to me that the absolute last thing he wants is to put his suppliers under oath on the witness stand.
