I asked my roofer to provide proof of insurance. He says he can get it to me by monday but most likely the job will be done by then because he wants to start early on saturday morning (today). I'm concerned he won't have the permit either and want to protect myself what should I do?? I have serious time constraints for getting the job done.

When you buy insurance, the insurance company provides you with proof that you have the insurance. It's called a "policy".

If he doesn't want to provide proof until Monday, it's because he doesn't have the insurance.

If he's this slipshod in the way he does business, you do NOT want him on your roof.

without the permit for one- dont let him start- if he does start the local govt inspectors cam stop work in mid completion. Liability insurance by the contractor is a must if he isnt insured guess who get's the bill if someone gets hurt at your house and is liable to suit-you. Time constraint or not you can get a reputable company that is licensed thru local govt that can get necessary permits and has the insurance necessary and only suffer a delay of a week but be safe. Most all insurance companies have saturday hours ..when he shows tell him you want the proof of insurance or atleast the name and tell him you are gonna call his agent before he is alowed to start

Well, then it is up to you. How serious over do you want to pay medical expenses as he will fall and collect.
Tell him to show, or forget it. No excuse. Same goes for permit. You will be stuck with the job half done.
If he really wants the job he will give you all the necessary documents Thursday.

It is your pocket book in the end. You have the say right now. You can find somebody else.

If you concern about his license , under $ 500 contract if is not professional maintenance such as electrical , mechanical and structural of building does not need to proof of insurance
but still you have the right to have original contract sign and date include fee and operation also his contractor license # and insurance policy # typed in contract sheet ,Now you must provide permit by local building and safety department also request to inspection form for any repair of roof .

I would seriously consider someone else due to B.S. he's giving you. If he has to B.S. his way in like this, then what else is he, or is he not telling you?
Beg question, I would tell him to wait until Monday and you can check, I'd bet he won't be there come Monday.
Your biggest mistake was trying to get the job done by a "cheapie" and not a real professional.

Get yourself three bids, tell them all your going to check all credentials and certificates and resumes, then the ones that show up should be O.K.

Don't try and "skim by" you'll pay in the end.

A renters or sources proprietors coverage plans in basic terms covers very own sources and not employer sources. And, it does not disguise employer criminal accountability. you are able to notwithstanding, get a employer interior the abode coverage that does disguise those issues. And, frequently that's surprisingly inexpensive. i think of the guy you spoke to did no longer comprehend what they're taking approximately. communicate on your coverage agent and have your coverage agent provide your boss a decision or have your boss call your agent so the agent is familiar with precisely what they're finding for.

DON"T LET HIM START!! Here in Texas they must provide you with insurance and permit before the job starts. If something happens to one of his workers, or you get inspected, you will be held liable. If he has insurance, and he a responsible contactor, he will have proof.

Insist on it. Or don't hire them. If you are in a situation where you think you have to go with this guy, at the very, very, minimum, write out your own liability waiver, (stating that you are not liable for any damages to himself, co-workers, or equipment), be it an accident, or equipment malfunction, WHILE THEY ARE ON YOUR PROPERTY, and make them sign and date it. If they refuse, prepare to have your house seized in the court settlement you are soon to become a key player in..P.S. something to think about...PEOPLE DIE FROM FALLING OFF ROOF TOPS.

Find another roofing contractor. The possible damages done by the wrong contractor could greatly exceed in cost of whatever time restrictions you are facing
