You know how, when you are downloading something, and it has a bunch of rules & stuff and it says : 'I accept/ I do not accept.' Do you read all of the stuff, or just click I accept and move on?

I would like to directly address Adam B: The difference that Americans have with their military is this: it is an all-volunteer force. Why is that such an important thing? Without people volunteering for general military service - the US would do what every other country has to do: require mandatory military service from it's citizens. In effect, every American that volunteers to serve is keeping every American citizen that does not want to serve from having to do so. That is a very real and direct way of giving freedom of choice to their fellow citizens. Anybody that so wishes can insult, look down upon, and criticize another person that chooses to serve. But those people are almost literally shooting themselves in the foot... if enough people have that attitude, people are not going to want to volunteer to serve. And the only alternative is again - mandatory military service. I've lived in Germany and England and have stayed long periods all around Europe. And the one thing that has always stuck with me is how lucky we are in the US to be free to decide how to live our lives not beholden to our government. Our military is just an extension of that value. And we literally can thank any volunteer in our military for that. Otherwise, hold whatever political views you want about using the military. But like it or not - the US will always have a military until it ceases to exist. The question is, do we want to support a volunteer military or not support a volunteer military and have to resort to mandatory service, drafts, or losing our sovereignty.
