Nobody was buying them. GM was losing money on the Camaro and Firebird/Trans Am for the last five years of production, so they gave it the axe. The Camaro was a fast car, but that was about the only good thing it had. It had a rough ride, it handled like a lifted 4X4, it wasn't very comfortable, the interior quality was low, it was unreliable, and it was overpriced. The V8 Camaros were good weekend cars, but they sucked as daily drivers. Since most people buying these types of cars also wanted to drive them every day, the Camaro was often over looked. I hope GM does it right when they build the new one, because between the new 2009 Challenger and the new 2009 Mustang, there will be a lot of competition.

The short answer is "Sales were down". But why were sales down? GM High Tech Performance magazine did a good story back around 2002 that addressed this very well. Ford and GM produce V6/automatic version of their respective products. Who buys these? you ask. Women. Have you ever sat in a 4th Gen Camaro? It's tough enough for a 6' tall man to see out of. Now imagine your a 5'4" woman. GM and Ford count on the V6 and base model sales to compensate for the (relatively)small number of Z28's, SS's, GT's and Cobras that they sell. When that doesn't happen, the entire model is in trouble. Ford sold WAAAYYY more base Mustangs than GM did base Camaros. Economics 101 says products that don't sell well enough get dropped.

as the last answer stated, sales were down. there were only selling like 42,000 per year, but making like 100,000. Chevy gave the camrao a break for 6 years, however I say even though the exterior is cool looking, the interior on the new camaro sucks. Camaro's were known for their simple, basic trim interior. not the new high detail crap they put in cars today. the camaro was sleek and rugged with attitude. This 2009 model is going to 'F' the whole car reputation up. Give the camaro to Ford and let them redesign the 67/69 Camaro. Atleast they know how to do it properly as seen with the Mustang. And for the record im a chevy fan over ford

Not enough people bought them, sales were poor. Car design was getting stale as you can see, only the front end was changed during the entire 4th generation. It's kinda like star trek, people loved it, but it no one bought it, so it needed a break. Now that they've had time to bring it into the 21st century they're introducing the 5th gen in 2009. It's will hopefully revitatalize GM.

G.M.....had this silly idea that all it,s car,s [ except the corvette ] should be front wheel drive...with a v6.....that didn't fit for the camaro....it,s supposed to be a sport,s car.....handling is different with front wheel drive & power suffer,s with a v6......because some stupid exec. thought this..G,M...lost all of it,s municipal sale,s to ford [ police vehicle,s]..they simply don,t handle as well...especially in a police chase....slowly they regained some sale,s.....but for the camaro....this action was like signing it,s death warrant....hopefully G.M. has regained it sence,s & the new camaro will shine through as it,s ancestor,s did!

undeniable and straightforward...company greed killed the Caprice...GM wanted to make SUVs on the Arlington Texas plant because of the fact on primary there became a income of $10,000 or extra off each and each Tahoe and Suburban as against possibly $2-3,000 income off the Caprice and not in any respect suggestions the money they made off the fleet provider for the taxicabs, police automobiles and government automobiles that the Caprice became used for...GM in no way observed a gallon of gas going for $4.00 and it got here back to chew them interior the rear ...
