Perhaps an example would help.
Example
Find 80% of £500
Method 1
(80 / 100) x £500 = 80 x £5 = £400
Method 2
(4/5) x £500 = 4 x £100 = £400
Method 3
10%<--->£50
80%<--->£400
Hope these may help.

To find 80% of a number, multiply it by 0.8.
For example,
80% of 30 = 30 x 0.8
= 24
80% of 50 = 50 x 0.8
= 40

The word "of" means multiply.
80% as a decimal is 0.80.
So, when you state: Find 80% of a number, you alter both into 0.80 * the number.
Example: Find 80% of 10.
0.80 times 10
Answer: 8

its same as we do the percentage of marks.
suppose u got 500 marks out of 600
then the % of marks is
*formula*
% = (marks u got/total)x100;
ie. (500/600)x100;
now %of number is:
for example no. is 45;
80% = (y/45)x100;
=>y = (80x45)/100;
'y 'is 80% of no.45;
re place 45 with any no. u will get 80% of that no..
