What exactly is torque on a car?

Torque is more of what gets your car moving from a dead stop, or when you floor it. Its basically the force that comes through the engine and drive train to the wheels. I personally think its better to have more Torque than more Horsepower

It is a power rating kinda like horsepower, kinda hard to explain, it is measurement of the strength of the rotational force of a engine. On a bolt it is the amount of force applied when you push on the ratchet handle. To win at arm wrestling you need a exert more torque than you opponent to win. A electric screw gun needs torque to sink a screw, when you are peddling a bike uphill you are exerting more torque then when peddling on the flat. hope these examples helped
