Absolutely. A couple of crocodile tears. There are MANY bridges, & freeway overpasses where I live; all are in grave disrepair. But please don't forget how much it costs to pay those "preselected" contractor's in Iraq! Can anyone think he would care about the number of deaths in this incident, when he doesn't care about the tens of thousands in Iraq? & yes, it IS the responsibility of the president to ensure maintenance of the intrastructure of this country. He has squandered the progress made by Clinton, & gotten us deeply in debt--from what deep pockets does he reach to pay for this invasion/civil war?

He will give lip service to the tragic event and do a blah blah blah speech.

The real tragedy in this is that in 1990 a study was started by the NHTSB, National Highway Transportation Safety Board to check the condition of the bridges of the interstate system because they of course were originally constructed between 1955 and 1965. Making most of them over 40 years old at the time.

The study was completed and published in 1996. That study was a nightmare for the highway maintenance departments of the nation because it showed more than 90% of the bridges built before 1970 had major deficienies in the maintenance and repair of the bridges.

It was estimated at that time the cost of either repairing or replacing the bridges was going to excede $1.5 trillion dollars over 25 years which was the fastest that the projects could be funded without emergency funding legislation.

Then there was the BUSH WARS. Doing these repairs went on the back burner everywhere in the Federal budgets.

It has already been mentioned in the news that this particular bridge had been inspected and found defecient. To prevent this tragic event they should have reduced the number of lanes in use from 8 to 6 until repairs were made to prevent this occurance. But they didn't.

We now have many dead and still more missing. Personally I feel this equates to a Federal Capitol Offense Crime. But who do you put on trial???

Oh really, how many of the Democrats running for President have or are planning to visit the site? I recall that in 1953 a bridge fell in Tacoma, no one blamed Harry Truman for it.

Congratulations you have made the bridge collapse in Minnesota the President's fault. Liberals are predictable and boring.

Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder saw this coming.

It is not the job of a President to be responsible for bridges.

"It is terrible that a tragedy like this could occur in Wisconsin."

(Not too bad, only 300 miles off)

I don't see you rushing over there to do anything.

Edit: Doesn't matter. Until you help out, don't say anything.
