I wouldn't go up to 7K if were you, it would damage your engine in the long run, besides there is no gain for you to go up that high on the rpm.

The spec for your 4.2L :'
horse power = 202hp@4350rpm
torque = 260lb-ft@3750rpm

so the normal rpm for your daily use is around 4K to 5K

going up to 7K will only make you burn more unneeded fuel. unless you are into drag racing, of speed off road.

chances are the limiter is set at 6. Going to seven on your car would destroy something. Chances are your engine is not built to take that high of rpm due to lots of recipricating mass turning way too fast. Looking at the answer above me you get max torque at a little less then 4k. After that volumetric efficiency goes down, which means your engine can't flow that much past that point because of restrictions (head can't flow well enough or some other restriction). So after 4 you will start droping in horsepower. The best shift point for your car is probably around 5k.

When the connecting rods come through the block you know you've over-reved (also known as windowing in racing jargon). Really though, your engine has a rev limiter installed that shuts down the fuel supply at a set rpm, however, I wouldnt recommend experimenting with your own car -- (use a rental!).

I don't have the specs for the 4.2 engine, but I doubt it you want to take it to 7K rpm. The max HP and torque will be a lower number. Something like 5800 sounds more reasonable.

i wouldn't want to do it all the time on it,that vehicle probably has a rev limiter in it that would prevent it from doing this all the time anyway,most cars do these days,but to be safe about i wouldn't make it a habit of going that high on the rpm,s of it,good luck on it.

No i dont recomend taking it out to 7k as 5k s normally where an engine runs out anyway.
