I've learned that each person takes that question and makes it different for themselves. Depending on what we surround ourselves with- the thoughts, the people, the interests, and environment- purpose for each person is created... and the meaning of life is not to figure out life, but to figure out ourselves. To do that entails much in the process, and can include the ATTEMPT of figuring out life.

Yet if we do not reach the ultimate goal of knowing what we want and do not want in all aspects of what life offers us as people, there is still hope and much to gain from the experience of being here.

When a child wraps his arms around you, when you give a shy soul a welcoming smile, when you look at the night sky like a child again, and all these things... lead to the conclusion that it is in discovering the warmth despite the cold, the good despite the bad, the fun despite the hurt, and the love despite havning it not in the things that are. Life is about how we live it, how we view it, and how we react to it. There is not much that we control, but everything to affect. And much needs the touch of love around us. Even if we do not achieve this, we can still achieve feeling. That achieved feeling gives powerful meaning to the things that causes it or what we learn from it. It is whatever we choose. It differs from person to person. Force no meaning on another. Live it and lead it only yourself as you would have it be.

As you would have it be. :)

Meaning can refer to real meaning or to just feelings of meaning. Real meaning comes from living for a real purpose. Real purpose is why we were put on this earth and what we are supposed to do here. Real purpose can only come from a Creator/God. If we think God exists, our initial purpose would be to seek Him.

If we don't think God exists, nothing including evolution, can give real meaning for evolution is just a mindless natural process and cannot grant meaning any more than a snowstorm can grant meaning to a snowflake. So neither life nor death nor survival nor procreation are purposes.

We can get feelings of meaning using several psychological tricks. One trick is to give yourself more self esteem; help in a homeless shelter, for example. You will feel good about yourself as you praise yourself and imagine others praising you. Then it is easy to imagine that helping the homeless is why you were put on this earth. It creates the illusion of purpose and meaning.

"The inner purpose of your life's journey.
When you are on a journey, it is certainly helpful to know where you are going or at least the general direction in which you are moving, but don't forget; the only thing that is ultimately real about your journey is the step that you are taking at this moment. That's all there ever is.
Your life's journey has an outer purpose and an inner purpose. The outer purpose is to arrive at your goal or destination, to accomplish what you set out to do, to achieve this or that, which, of course, implies future. But if your destination, or the steps you are going to take in the future, take up so much of your attention that they become more important to you than the steps you are taking now, then you completely miss the journeys inner purpose, which has nothing to do with where you are going or what you are doing, but everything to do with HOW. It has nothing to do with future but everything to do with the quality of your consciousness at this moment. The outer purpose belongs to the horizontal dimension of space and time; the inner purpose concerns a deepening of your being in the vertical dimension of the timeless now. Your outer journey may contain a million steps; your inner journey only has one: the step that you are taking right now. As you become more deeply aware of this one step, you realize that it already contains with in itself all the other steps as well as the destination. This one step then becomes transformed into an expression of perfection, an act of great beauty and quality. It will have taken you into being, and the light of being will shine through it. This is the purpose and fulfillment of your inner journey, the journey into yourself."

Every life is different therefor everyone's meaning of life will be different. My meaning? To live life to the fullest and see my child happy. That's all I could ask for.
