I personally do think that our society has overused the power of the first amendment. Ppl think they have the right to say whatever they want, and act however they feel like it. They do have the right to express their individuality but obviously in a way that shouldn't interfere with others in a negative way. Obviously some personalities may clash, but for some ppl there is no excuse b/c some have no regards that there are other ppl too!
but what can you do, we live life to learn that it is not fair, and b/c its not fair your forced to share a world w/ignorate ppl :/

If every one cared a lot more for their fellow man, who knows how great this country could become. Instead the rich get richer, the old get older, companies lay people off, people rob, cheat, lie, steal and rarely do we see a person do the right thing. So rarely in fact, that it makes it shocking when you hear about it. It would be wonderful to live in a society where the evening news was about all the good people did because they had so little bad to report. We have a society based on "keeping up with the Jones", where individuality has taken on a skewed meaning. Do I really have to hurt others to be myself?

Individuality? Overuse? Abuse? What a joke. I see no sign of it in this country, most americans are like sheep looking to the media to tell them how to act, look, dress, etc. Sure, there are those groups who get together and "protest" things, all screaming--"we are all individuals". Makes me think of Monty Python's "The Life of Brian". Really take a good look, there aren't as many "individuals" as you might think.

Individuality, in a sense, helps us gain perspective and a fall back, especially in times of desperation. I think people are basically selfish, instinctive to a point of saving one's self whenever necessary. But then, the thing is, we cannot live for and with ourselves alone.

Individuality is what makes the world alive and kicking...
It is important to remember that each of us is unique and maintain the uniqueness...
This diversity also contributes to the unity...
Society consists of all kinds of people...
There are selfish people as well as those who are giving...
I dont think being selfish is due to excess 'individuality'...
I think the best way to contribute to society is by being yourself and making a difference ...

just suffering from dissociative illness as a culture. religion creates artificial seperation between faith and knowledge in order to polarize and control.

the group vs individual dichotomy should be observed with regards to the above dissociation. the individual as a seperate entity has as it's primary expression the ego.

Im not sure if we have used individuality to do its best but more have taken it down a path that is not going to end well.

I dont think its over used or abused but used in the wrong way.

Service to the State, for the betterment of the whole community, is a far more attractive solution (in my opinion)

I think that true individuality is a thing which is shunned and aggresively attacked in today's sodiety, so I can't intelligently answer your question...

That is the dark side of capitalism...but its goodness is far greater...because we are a selfish creature...we are just being who we are....we are not overusing or abusing it.
