If someone is harassing me by forcing a sale via door to door solicitation, and I ask them to leave and they do not comply and continue harassing, what are my rights? i rent a home with a big front yard. at what point in the conversation, and where physically, would i be allowed to use physical force to remove someone from my property who was not invited? what if they retaliated and hurt me or my family, who would be at fault? just want to know what the laws are, i would never harm anyone as i never have, but if someone was harassing my family and would not leave my door, i would want to know what rights i have to protect us.

Easy, post a No Solicitors Allowed sign, right on your front gate.

Your best bet would be to call the police and have them removed or arrested, if they retaliate you can file a lawsuit against the company that he works for (though they may say he is a independent contractor) and the person that committed the assault. If you both are engaged in mutual combat and one of your family members is injured you are both equally responsible.

After you post your No Solicitor sign, when someone comes to the door, just tell them that you have a sign posted and close the door, if the keep knocking just call the cops.

Force is not a good idea, as you know.
If however, you attempt to shut the door, and the offender
tries to stop you, it's an attempt at forced entry, (a felony most places).
Most of these people know that and won't go there.

You call the police and file a complaint for criminal trespass. If you take matters into your own hands, you will end up in jail. You may only use physical force or violence when either you and someone else is in imminent danger of death or injury.

You need to post a sign saying "No Solicitations of anykind". If they knock on your door and don't leave call the cops as they are illegally tresspassing on your property.

You have no right to remove anyone in this situation. Call the police.

Don't handle it yourself, let the police do it.
