I would very much like to work in the film industry, and eventually direct, but haven't ever had the opportunity to do so. I'm very bright, and have a lot of interesting ideas, but am trapped in my current occupation like a fly in amber. If only there was a way........Any ideas?

If you know Peter Jackson, he's a great director of King Kong, Lord of the Rings, etc. One of the great things I know about him is similar to your situation. He didn't go to school. He dropped out and taught himself about filmaking. He was self-taught and became a great director. A good way to start is to actually get a degree at a school such as New York Film Academy, UCLA, etc. It helps you get familair with it. Next you need these qualitites.............

1. Authoritative: A great filmmaker must have a strong sense of authority. They are responsible for leading a team to create an outstanding finished product and must command the team to ensure they are working at their best.
2. Communication: A great filmmaker must have excellent communication skills. They must be able to clearly articulate what their production goals are and be able to work with all team members to accomplish that goal.
3. Creativity: A great filmmaker must be very creative. They must be able to generate ideas for stories, backgrounds, music, and other elements that are involved in a film production.
4. Decisive: A greatfilm maker must be able to make firm decisions and stick to them to help ensure production stays on track.
5. Drive: A great filmmaker has a tremendous sense of drive and ambition. They are willing to do whatever it takes to rise to the top of the industry and make great films.
6. Grace Under Pressure: A great filmmaker is able to handle pressure well. They understand that complications will arise during the film making process and are able to handle the stress.
7. Open Minded: A great filmmaker is open minded to changes in his or her ideas. They accept input readily and consider other points of view without judgment.
8. Problem Solving: A great filmmaker can quickly address problems that arise during production. They are able to identify problems and figure out the best way to fix them.
9. Technologically-Savvy: A greatfilm maker is familiar with many, if not all, of the technological elements that are involved in the film making process. They have a grasp on what is feasible and what is not.
10. Vision: A great filmmaker has a terrific vision and can see the film from its conception through to its final product. They never lose sight of the ultimate goal.

I worked as an Independent producer at a cable station and had full access to their studios and equipment. You should have a community program of similar nature where you live.
