I am conservative with libritarian values
The First Amendment.
Respect for the military. (Rational Dems not the crazy lefties.)
The Fifth Amendmant.
Gay rights. I really don't care as long as they don't force someone who doesn't believe in it to preform the service.
Abotion up to a point. 3rd trimester is to late for me. At that point it becomes murder. At least it does to me. Although I just heard someone say they would support it until 30 days after birth. I think that is completely overstepping their bounds.

I generally start searching for a common ground with questions about how to do good in the world. If you ask, most people want to improve the world around them, and we can usually find a project of interest, or humor in the human situation. I try to avoid people who are actively into doing evil, if only because I believe part of doing good is being slow to judge others. There is one exception to this. I once met a man whom I suspected of indulging in Ted Bundy type activities. He got away, untraceable. I don't know if I would have had the nerve to kill him or not. But, remember that if you ever do jury duty, not all bodies found along the road are necessarily innocent victims. Some may be bad people who weren't as fast or skilled as they thought. For those of you who say a person should call the cops, watch our legal system in action before you chose to do that. Even if nothing else goes wrong, the paperwork will consume your life for years.

Morals
I agree with conservatives on morals standards, but I do not feel that the government should be defining them, nor policing them.
I agree with conservatives on many points, until it comes to the "there should be a law..." statement.
I also do not believe in religion based government.

I'm a bit of a radical (Libertarian), so its hard sometimes to agree with people. I have a friend thats a socialist and we agree about people should have large amounts of civil liberties. It ussually ends up an arguement on the size of government and economic rights.

Anti-gun control
Anti-abortion
Other than that, these new conservatives are NOT conservatives anymore. They are neo-cons.
They are now for:
Big government
Deficit spending
Federal intrusion
And thrice married, cheating candidates

Dems say the support the troops, but on the other hand a lot of them say the troops are brainwashed by the military. I don't think insulting people means the same as supporting them. So there is no common ground.

I don't share any common ground with liberals. I have found them to be extremists and it's really quite scary.
