ex President Lincoln was a Great President but he was far from perfect and made mistakes too.I will always have respect for the man.He never let politics keep him from just being a man.
Thank you for the nice memories i have of him by reading about him.

It's also interesting to note that Lincoln had the entire South opposing him and numerous people in the North also - yet he is now regarded as one of the best presidents this country has ever had.
I like to imagine how the Civil War would have turned out if today's liberals would have been present to whine and protest his policies. And the press.....well, you get the picture.

Yeah, Good ole Abe also said this
"I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." ... My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."
They don't teach this in history books either. The Civil War wasn't about slavery at all, it was all about money.

Unfortunetly a president like Lincoln does not come around too often but this would be a nice time to have someone of his intelligence, compassion and love for unity in this country be elected as president.

deno, you were more like the Copperheads (the Northern Democrats that were pacifists and were against war). Read about them. They also called Lincoln,Abraham Africanus.

What they don't tell you is that Lincoln was the ultimate insider. He was a big-shot lawyer who represented the rail roads which, at that time, were the Robber Barron's of their day.
