in Y/A land that tell us exactly how a top contributor badge is earned & kept?
I know you have to be on at least level 3 & have 10% of your answers as "best answer" & something about participation in a particular category... such as here in P&S...
That's what I'm really wondering... is how many Q&A's it takes to get into a certain category... or to drop out of one?
Can anyone provide me a link with the particulars? I looked & can't find.
Or are you just guessing by experience?
(Sorry Pink Floyd fans... didn't mean to mislead you with my question!) :o)
Please, I am serious about this, please keep your answers, kind, nice & clean... or don't answer at all.
Thank you, LH99 :o)

Well I got top contributor when I was on level 3 and had 25% best answer. The only thing you can do is keep your level at above 25% best answer.
The specific number depends on the ratio between best answers and questions answered.
I think there's something in the rules or guidelines or something that gives you the exact rundown, but that's the basic gist.

With all due respect to all of the previous posters, I don't really think there is a specific quota other than answering lots of questions in a certain catergory/ catergories. I am now considered a T. C., and I don't even have 10% best answers, plus, there's nothing in the Community Guidelines (or nothing that I saw; I just looked at them) that even mentions Top Contributor.

You get to be "top contributor" by answering a bunch of questions in just one category and, according to what folks say, at least 10% of those answers have to be chosen as "best answer."
I've been answering almost all my questions in one category (this one, Yahoo Answers) because I wanted to get an idea of just how many questions a person has to answer in one category. Is it 50? 100? 200? Nobody seems to know.
I now have about 85 answers in this "Yahoo Answers" category and about 30% have been "best answer" and, today, Monday August 6th, I just saw that I have the badge!!! I just made it!!!!!!
Now I'm left to wonder what the magic number was but this does give me some idea. I don't have 100 answers yet but I made it. Possibly it helped that I have a good "best answer rating."
Whether the asker or voters chose your answer as "best answer," it helps you closer to being a "top contributor." Askers always have the first right to choose the "best answer" but if they don't choose before the time for voting expires then it goes into voting.
Which is silly, sort of, since the asker gets 3 points for choosing "best answer" and they forfeit that if it goes into voting.
Of course, once you get chosen "top contributor," you have to keep answering in that category but, again, nobody knows how many you have to do per week to keep it. If I find out, I'll let you know.

this whole matter has me curious as well, the other thing that has me curious is how some people can manage to have 75% or higher best answers......looks like some serious rigging going on.......or i am really stupid along with a lot of other people.....

You have to fight through the Yahoo War! After you get through your basic training (level one) you learn to crawl through the mud and barbed wire flat on your belly to get to the next level and then the next, so-on-and-so-forth. You earn your medal of honor going through the combat zone.
(hint of advice) find a journalist to go along with you to record and take notes of all the important events.
