He's the leading republican in most polls and he hasn't announced yet. Is this a very strong sign that the party is pinning their hopes on ole Freddy? Isn't it also very telling about the other candidates?

Actually, most of the polls that I have seen show him in second or third place.

At this point in time, the polls measure name recognition and public image. Obviously, a movie star who plays good guys is going to have name recognition and a positive public image.

It does say something about the other candidates. It says that the true conservatives do not have any name recognition. It also says that the base of the party does not trust the moderates or moderate-conservatives that do have name recognition.

At this point, I am waiting on the results of the various straw polls in August. The results of these straw polls (especially the Iowa one) should start eliminating some of the candidates. I would not be surprised to be down to 1 true conservative, 1 Libertarian, 3 slightly right of centers, and 1 undeclared by Labor Day.

He's a television actor whom show is currently on the air. For him to declare himself a candidate, all of the "Law & Order" episodes that feature him has to be pulled out of syndication, as well as anything else he starred in that is played regularly on television. Federal election laws dictate that all candidates must have equal media coverage, and most likely, Fred Thompson is waiting for the last possible moment so that he doesn't take too much money out of his own or his co-stars' pockets.

Being an actor puts him in a tough spot. But, he said he will run. We just have to be patient. Also, history is an issue. Usually, after an embattled President leaves office, its party doesn't have an immediate replacement. For example, when Richard Nixon resigned, the Republicans didn't have a viable candidate until Ronald Reagan in 1980. History may just need to play itself out on this one.

Fred Thompson raised 3.4 million in one month. That is a good start, when he formally announces the rate will increase

You better believe that Fred Thompson will be running. You bet your bottom dollar on that. Don't worry he is ok.

He's coming around the mountain top. He has plenty of time. No need to be in a hurry. I am curious as to who he will choose for his running mate. But, like I said. It's a long way off. THOMPSON "08"

...Last I heard, he was having trouble scraping up the money to launch his campaign run... Evidently the Conservative "base" isn't too enthusiastic about who they're going to vote for in the next Election yet... I think their last "choice" didn't quite live up to their "expectations..."

Ole Fred can't find no money to run. Doesn't speak well of his plans if he can't get anybody ( the fat cats ) to contribute.
