Not very likely, unless you are a QB that is heavily relied upon. I suppose if Tom or Peyton needed to lose a game to win some money, they could do it with nobody thinking anything funny, just that they had a bad game.

As for anyone else, I don't see how 1 guy could really control the outcome of the game. A guy sucking out there would get pulled fairly quickly, other than a high caliber QB.

As far as refs go, what can they do? They can't just go around making up calls, as the calls in football are not as subjective as say, basketball. Plus the TV does not lie, so they would be overturned and highly suspect if they weren't even close on a play.

Absolutely!

Coaches - Could call plays with lower percentage chance of success. Could slightly change the usual substitution rotation of players to create a disadvantage.

Trainers - Could spike a player's food or water to cause a drug test to be failed. Could provide a treatment (a tape job for instance) which subtly hurts performance.

Players - Could fumble, throw an interception, drop a pass, miss a block, miss a tackle, miss a kick, or commit a penalty at a critical moment.

Officials - Can call a penalty, spot the ball, call a first down, call a tuouchdown, etc to create an advantage in a key situation.

Commisioner or Owner - Can suspend a player to create a disadvantage.

Publilc - Could take some action to try to prevent a player from participating for legal or medical reasons.

Of course, the closer matched the teams are the easier it is fix a game.

For example, suspending Peyton Manning would of course be devastating but it would be suspicious. However if two teams are very close then suspending a nickleback could give you the needed advantage.

Also, if two teams are close a single bad spot of the ball at the right time could create the advantage.

The smaller the needed advantage the easier it is to do.

Because he believed the lakers going to the finals would draw high ratings and profit, just like OKC right now. The refs helped OKC down the stretch in game 6 and it was obvious. Stephen Jackson gets a technical for LOOKING at the OKC bench?? And that's just one example. In game 6 of the 2002 WCF between the lakers and kings, the lakers had 40 total free throw attempts and 27 free throw attempts in the 4th quarter alone. Yeah, anyone who doesn't think the refs handed the lakers that game is an idiot.

I think it's possible, although it's tougher to do than in a more individual sport like basketball where one player can make or break many plays - hence the many scandals involving players over the years in college basketball.

It's certainly possible in football - missed blocks, intentional fumbles, bad QB decisions - but the "team" aspect of the sport makes it tougher on one guy.

No they are not as simple minded as basketball refs. Besides football is a real sport who cares if all basketball games are fixed its a game for the weak minded anyway

definitely, i think its easier than in basketball because theres so many more things going on at once that a ref could make a call thats kind of close and no one would really think he was trying to fix the game
