Thank you for making me think of these wonderful things. I come from a big family also, there were 4 girls and 1 boy.
1. My dad would sit and watch my mom as she read a story out loud and we would act it out. Our favorite was The Spider and the Fly.
2. During the summer on the weekends we would go to the Tide pools at Half Moon Bay. We ate a lot of fresh cooked crab on the wharf.
3. There was one Christmas when I just wanted 1 gift. It was a hair styling doll, with a chair and hairdryer that was suppose to work. Everyone got the one special gift they wanted but me. I was leaving the room with tears in my eyes when my dad said "What is this behind my chair?" I looked as he lifted a big box up. He said it was for me. I opened it so fast. It was my doll. :) The hairdryer never worked, even though my dad tried to fix it. That was my best gift ever. (almost)
4. One year on my birthday everyone pretended they had forgotten it. I was sad until I decided to go and get a candy bar to cheer me up. I saw my parents at the checkout with a stuffed animal and party hats. I pretended to be surprised and had a lot of fun.
5.Some weekends we went to the drive-in and the best part was when we got home and I would pretend I was asleep and dad or mom would carry me in. Those were some of the special moments of my life.

1. Sittin' on the front porch of ol' man Hay's house listening to him tell about his young life as a black child in lousiana. He was 97 at the time and lived to be 102.
2. Camping with my Dad on Blue Ridge in Calif. and learning about how we should all conserve the forests and wildlife so there would be some around for our kids. His Philosiphy about hunting and living in the wild was the same as the Native Americans. Take only what you need to survive and try your Darndest to save some for posterity.
3. Playing baseball with the kids up the block in Redding, Calif. and having Merv Griffin try to teach us how to hit and catch.
4. Being in the school play as a sophomore and having the audience applaud when the show was over. To me, anyway, it felt like the world was saying, "YOU can do anything!"
5. Having the greatest english teacher, Mrs. Margret Bauer, who fortified all her studends with the will to go out there and do what you could to make this world a better place for you, (and mankind,) to live in.
You only asked for five, but I have to include this too.
6. Learning that everything you do in life proportionately projects on what you really are! That I learned from my DAD when I was only four years old and he handed me a few wrenches and told me to take the oil pan off a 1936 chevy pickup.
I asked why and he said, "Because it has to be done and you are the only one who is here that can do it!"
Yeah. I loved my DAD! He was wise and thoughtful!
