Window Films generally are coated polyester films. Polyester is a petroleum product similar to plastics and vinyl, etc.

The poly is "coated" with either dyes, metals or ceramics. Coating is done in various methods like sputtering.

Adhesives are incorporated on one side 'sticky side down!' of this film and a liner is placed on the finished product.

Obviously it's a rather complex process and there are patents on various components of these processes. This however is a fair assessment of the process.

window tint is a film that you buy to install yourself (which doesn't work really well) or you go have it put on. You don't "make" it yourself.
