I think some people report people when they don't like the answer, instead of just giving a thumbs down.
I think before Y! reports a person, they should
LOOK at the answer or question first, then decide if the person really is violating.

Please understand that it is a computer system with 400,000 answers being processed worldwide at a time. Somebody doesn't like your (ahem) economical answer, they push the report flag. The validity or veracity of that report is not analyzed, you are deducted 12 points simply because some mean spirited person CAN. You can appeal the violation but it's not worth it. I'm SURE somewhere in all the silly rules, they will find that it wasn't a yes or no question, so your answer was insufficient. Move on.

go figure! I answered a question and got a violation too. The question had to do w/ making peanut butter balls.... it seemed like a pretty easy to answer question - some folks have no sense of humor....
Soda Pop - what are you tripping on?

Somebody that doesn't like you reported you for abuse, Yahoo doesn't check these reports, so they dont need to put a reason. You lost your 2 points for answering and obviously 10 points for best answer...........Nuf Said

Well, I wouldn't go as far as reporting you for abuse, but a thoughtless answer like "No" brings no value to the Yahoo! Answers forum.
When people ask questions, they appreciate thoughtful answers and it comes across as "point hungry" just to give a one-word answer. Just my opinion.
Rule # 12 in the "Don'ts" portion of the community guidelines states: "Post content for the purpose of gaining points, trading points, or soliciting others for points. Use product features outside of its intended purpose in order to manipulate the point system for yourself or others."
UPDATE: You answered the question you did for points. You shouldn't answer questions you don't know the answer to. Not every question is directed toward you, so you don't have to answer every question that you don't know the answer to with "no" or "I don't know."
