If you've never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a small business and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.

and read some of the articles especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business.

Good Luck

So much of that depends on the state you live in, and the amount of children you will take in, the ages, space...and so on. Write a business plan, to include all the who's, where's and why's. Do you have money to invest in equipment for the kids? What about food? You need to check with the depart of revenue for licensing, Health and welfare for food subsidy and so on before you get started. Then there is the advertising and getting the word out. Lots to do before you jump into it.

First do your research on how much it costs for start up, what you will need etc. ask others who have opened up similar businesses on how they got started.
