Americans have always had a "love/hate" relationship with the French. True, -they helped us our during the Revolution AND at many other times during our history. But France, being the older country, has never been shy about expressing her "opinion" about our "Affairs", and they were particularly "vocal" against our entering into the Iraq War 5 years ago- warning us that it was a "mistake" & they wanted NO part of it. At the SAME time, our Government was upset- that France wouldn't help us, & said some pretty nasty (& unjustified) things about French "bravery". ... Well, You can see for yourself who "won" THAT argument... -But it's just a small example of why some Americans don't have a particularly good opinion of the French... :)

'How can Americans not love the country that helped us win the Revolutionary war?'
Indeed they did assist us in winning the Revolution, yet it was not really the French people that supported us, it had to do with the King of France not liking the King of Britian.
Back to the topic though... I don't think most people dislike the french or if they do it is only because it is what our leaders, in Congress and the Whitehouse, want us to do. I am sure once we get past this current administration you will see people coming back around.

Well the Americans that I know that have gone to France.
They all say the same thing. That the french don't like Americans. When they go through some of their city's there, The french with lock their doors. And close town. So the Americans can't buy from them. And I knew a guy that was from France. And when he talked to this older man in french, the man was as nice as can be. And then he asked him where he went to school at. He told him, and the man asked where that was, because he hadn't heard of it.He said it was in America. The man cussed him out in french, and walked away.
SOOOOOOOO.....Why should we like them?

French has i see it are misunderstood by their culture an current attitude towards the English in general... No more than American trying to keep their American Pride in their country.. Than the french are trying to keep their pride in their culture. But you are going to get this attitude from other country's an their internal culture difference ...
I do believe in free speech for all, an a open mind. Because your mind is your own not anyone else but your own.
Being half french myself but was raise English Canadian and pride to live here. I,m not trying to nock the American, because some of my family are from there too..
An the statement about not taking a baths could not be otherwise untrue unless the person who said this was watching cartoons like "Yvon of the Yukon" ...lol

I think Americans have the perception that the French are surrenderers.
But in reality, they stood up recently against the "European Union" constitution, because they didn't want to be a part of an EU "superstate", and it was a great slap in the face against the evil globalist pigs. So I think France is fine

Yes, they helped out in the Revolutionary War. But we won their country back for them in both WW I and WW II. Anymore, they seem to be making all the socialist and liberal mistakes that they were warned about. Now the country is edging more and more towards trouble and won't stand up to defend it's own culture. They give in to every new-comer minority group that moves in. They're too quick to give in and let anyone have their own way. The larger cities have had many riots in recent years when ever there's talk about people pulling their own weight and getting off government programs. Sad.

Why do some french not like americans? It can go either way with any country. Some people just don't like em, some people jump on a bandwagon and some people have genuine reasons.

I think you make a good point. Sometimes as people we can tend to follow the trend instead of making our own opinions. My husband is in the military and I remember when he began disliking the French, and it was when they resisted supporting the U.S. during the Iraqi invasion. Of course, that was then and this is now, (we are all wondering why this war is really happening) and it's more acceptable to stand against the U.S. government. But I personally boil it down to going along with the masses, instead of making an informed decision for oneself. It sounds to me like you enjoy the French, so rock on with your bad self:) !!

Americans are usually treated badly when traveling to France. The people are rude to us and seem to generaly not like us. Of course, not all of the French people are like that, some are very nice people.
