Your choices are limited if you want diurnal but the Day geckos (Phelsuma sp.) are frequently bred in captivity. They do not tolerate handling as well as a leopard gecko however.

leopard geckos are nocturnal, but you barely even notice it, mine is awake whenever I am pretty much, there very gentle though, and I even got mine to eat a cricket and waxworm from my hand today, they're an excellent pet, inexpensive and they can live to years or more!

they are are nocturnal, but if you want diurnal- get an (eastern) collard-lizard. they are the best! just feed them crickets. the dont really poop that much, and the are very active. mine always looks at me when i read and stuff. he sits on my lap
