Well I haven't lived in CA, but have visited. I do live in NY state.
So, I'd like to ask - do you mean New York City or New York State? There's a Huge, Huge difference between the 2!

NYC is fun to visit but I couldn't live there, too many people (lots of crazy and weird) and not enough room.
Now NY is a great state, especially the small cities and rural areas. I love the changing of the seasons and the landscape. I love the fact that you can buy a $100,000 house with 2,000 sq feet and 5 acres of land here in upstate NY. (try doing that in CA!) The drawback with NY are the taxes and sometimes bad snowstorms. (I can always shovel snow, but you can't shovel away an earthquake or fire.)
CA is a great place, very laid back and such. It has such a diversity between the desert-like areas, the green lush valleys, and the forested north - but it's too expensive for me.

If I lived in California I would live in a rural part of Northern California. A lot of people in the music/entertainment industry go between NYC and LA. If you don't live in a major California city, the switch to NYC would not be an easy one.

funny story. I used to live in california and i moved up to new york a few years ago. my father had a job transfer which forced us to live here. i prefer california, because of the weather, my old friends, the homey feeling i get there. parts of ny is rough, but sometimes interesting. for those who like unique, odd, exciting (and somtimes scary) things, ny is the place.

NO, because I am too accustomed to the warmer weather and laid back lifestyle. Just my preference, I have nothing against the states back East.
