If there are no family members who come to claim the deceased, murdered victum, then YES !! Anyone who dies or is killed in a state where they do not live, that state is responsible to cremate the body. In most states cremation is the cheapest way to go and that is what they do. In the state of Utah, there is a woman who died a horrible death. That state could not find her family to claim her remains. Her cremated remains sat on a shelf for many years and finally last year, the family found her and come to find out she was born and raised in Texas. She still sits on a shelf in Utah, because the family has no money to pay the costs from years ago and for storage. Until they can come up with the money, the state of Utah, will hold the remains.
