will I consume the same amount of fuel as driving 20 miles level?

Remember I will be getting less than average MPG going up But better than average MPG going down. Will I recover my lost MPG on the way down and so have the same total MPG as if I were driving level?

That is a INCOMPLETE question as we do not know the following:::: What size, tranny type what vehicle type; what % grade how high etc etc. where is the level terrain, 6,000 feet elevation

But common sense would tell you No, but the factors listed above dictate lots.

No, you would use more going up the hill. If you are driving on a level surface at a constant speed you don't really use that much more gas. Even if you are coasting down hill, you are still using gas too.

That's my opinion, and I don't have any figures to back it up, but it makes sense to me.
