Wrestlers use it to lose weight all the time.

In a sauna you will sweat out some water and so lose some weight, your body will regain that weight again after a day or so, but for that day you will lose some weight.

When a wrestler is trying to get into a lower weight class they will use a sauna to try and shave off a few pounds temporally to get them just into the lighter weight class. If they can make it into that lower weight class then they have a better chance of wining the bought.

Sauna's don't take weight off normally, they are to make you feel sweat and to sweat impurities out of your body. In the Native American Culture a sweat lodge is a totally different idea; a mystical one. It is used to get visions, sometimes with the aid of drugs, sometimes not. It is a religious ceremony and one that honors the Native American tradition.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

In theory, a sauna session is supposed to make you drop excess water weight ('cause you sweat it out). But it's not a HUGE difference or anything.
It's mainly beneficial cosmetic wise. The heat is supposed to relax your muscles, and also sweating cleans out your pours, and raises your blood pressure, increasing blood flow making your skin more vibrant and youthful looking.

I agree with Dan, when I was in high school that was one of the methods we used to make weight. The night before a match we would sit in there and sweat until no more sweat came out. Medically, dangerous as hell.
