I hate when that happens. Specially when you invested time in the answer, like you obviously did. Or when they ask something like "Do you think ...?" and of course there is not right or wrong so they -should- pick the most thorough, but they only pick whoever they agreed with, even if their answer was only one sentence and not nearly as elaborate as your own. Hate that.
Back to your question, I do think you deserved it, because "the best answer" that was chosen listed the obvious thing, if you're going to school you obviously need a pencil, eraser and if you're a girl; lip gloss. Needless to say. And you gave it deeper thought.

Everybody can't be Best Answerer. Sometimes there are multiple Best Answers but only one can be chosen. I have had like three best answers to choose from on questions I ask. Just be happy you gave advice and not worry about stupid points.

You gave great advice that I feel was far more valuable than a list of common items that are needed for school and purchased every year.
But, the person asked for the common items.
However, I do feel that you gave the best answer.

Well, her comment was that your answer was almost best. You went for the social side of things and the other answer went for the essential materials needed. They weren't even close in content. I would have chosen yours, but you never know what the person is looking for. Hey, she's in 7th grade, what do you expect?

She didn't pick you as best answer because you totally missed the point of the question! She asked what to BRING to 7th grade. You were giving her tips on how to "survive" 7th grade. Read carefully!!!!!!!!

No. It's the person that asks the question that decides that. And she didn't pick you.
