One thing to consider: The last two books are indeed written by another writer and the Bourne in them is cast as an older man, but it should be remembered by any who have read the series that these movies do not follow the plot of the book to any stretch of the imagination. In fact, Jason Bourne was supposed to be in his mid 50s for this movie as well.

They have GOT to make at least one more to clarify what the relationship between Bourne/Webb and Nicky was. To me, this was the only open-ended part of the Bourne Ultimatum and it bugs me. I realize Paul Greengrass most likely purposely did this, but it really bugs me. Hopefully, with The Bourne Ultimatum earning more than the first two films already ($70 million) and premiering at #1, it will gently "nudge" Greengrass to at least think about directing "The Bourne Legacy" and/or even "The Bourne Betrayal"!!

I have seen the three Matt Damon movies, but have not read any of the books. That said, I haven't read the later books by Eric Van Lustbader (Legacy & Betrayal), either, but I did read something about them and they take place much later- Bourne is well into his 60s. I think it was a review on Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com. Some readers were not happy because it didn't seem plausible that Bourne could be in his 60s and still leaping tall buildings in a single bound, dodging bullets, etc. (C'mon, Indy 4 is coming out soon! LOL) But, apparently, Bourne is now a professor at a University when some of his colleagues are murdered, which causes him to realize that his past is catching up to him. Regardless of who stars in it, I think it would still make a great sequel if the directing/casting is done as well as it was with the original three. Incidentally, has anybody seen the "original" Bourne Identity- the 4 (or so) hour made for TV mini series from 1984 starring Richard Chamberlain and Jacquelyn Smith? It is supposedly much more beautiful in terms of scenery but the action is by far superior in the Matt Damon series. I believe the original mini series movie was more true to the books. I have it but have not had time to watch it.

Yes, i think they will be made as the series is making so much money.. so if the demand is there im sure the movies will follow.

Matt Damon said that he would not be returning to the role. If he sticks to that statement then im not sure if Paul Greengrass will be the Director.. and this may cause the main cast not to return also.

That being said, the movies will still be made but we all know that the core 'Bourne' fans will not enjoy the new movies without the original team on board.

I havent read the final two books and personally the only questions left unaswered for me after the Ultimatum is:

1) What becomes of David Webb following the events of the trail after the Ultimatum
2) What happened and what happens next with David & Nicky Parsons?

Id actually like to see a final movie.. one more.. not two. And id like it to be filmed in Godfather 2/Goodshepherd style. With a 2 plots from a different timeline going on at the same time:

a) Pre-quel story to 'Identity' which explores What lead David Webb to turn into Jason Bourne; Jason/Davids relationship with Nicky & also some key events from his Tredstone days with Conklin, Nicky and Ward featuring.

b) and the second timeline can explore what happens next for David Webb/Nicky Parson & Pam Landey

The last 2 books you mentioned were written in conjunction with another author, i.e. they finished books that Ludlum had started but did not complete he died. The Bourne Ultimatum was the last true book by Ludlum

keep in mind these books were not made by the original author so they may decide to scrap the movie series but I hope they don't

Matt Damon did not say he would not return, rather he would only return is the script was good for another film.
