Is 1930's style Marxism the modern definition of "Progressive " ?

Do the young mush heads (new recruits) know that the Democrats have had control of the house and senate 80% of the time since WWII ?

They should call them Dinocrats for being so old and out of date . This is not 1930 anymore and the programs have failed because they suck .

Maybe they should be called progressive marxists because thats their direction .

Or how about the "peoples Redistribution party of 1936 "

These ideas are from the past , come on people the Democrats have run the show for a long time .

It's nothing more than the latest 'buzz' word to hide their true agenda. That true agenda is socialism. Socialism is far cry from being 'progressive'. Once the government takes control of our lives, our businesses and we end up in a state of 'forced' dependency, how in the world can these blind people see this as being progressive?

What a bunch of misinformed folks. Most of those who have tagged themselves as being progressive (not all), are those who want to turn us into a Nanny State. Their disguise is very weak.

Maybe because republicans are anything but progressive. In the 107 years since 1900 republicans have created ONE program to help people. Republicans have stood in the way of all the programs that help those in need in this country. In the last 25 years they have done there best to ruin all of those programs. Democrats have been the progressive party and they should let everyone know it !!!

You mean Democrats like Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman? Haven't heard them make this claim.

Mush heads aren't new recruits - they're aficionados of dog sledding. What are YOU talking about?

Progressive is someone who rejects the rigidness, racism, sexism, hypocrisy and wealth accumulation by a selected few at the cost of larger portion of the society ttraditionally supported by conservatives.

Progressive values advocate social and economic issues for the greater good of the society by sharing benefits and responsibilities to achieve a common good.

Because Republicans did an outstanding job portraying a "liberal" as a terrorist.. Now all the "liberal" politicians don't want to be associated with a word which will cause the uneducated to vote strictly against them because they call themselves that.. They're doing a heck of a job with the "socialism" word as well.. Give it nine years or so and they'll find a new word...

Beats me why they call it "progressive". Sounds good on paper, I guess.
But why it is called "progress" is any body's guess. To keep their constituents dumbed down in order to achieve or retain power is anything but progress!
How about enabling people to take care of themselves instead of providing monetary and material support?
That would be more "progressive" in my book.

Mostly because "progress" is a vague and subjective term. Whatever transpires as a result of the Leftist agenda, good or bad, can be called "progress"

Stalin murdered million in the USSR, but that was "progress" you see. Castro plunged a prosperous nation into poverty and misery, but it was "progress"

The Leftists calling themselves "progressives" is like the cab driver who keeps telling you "we're getting there" except you don't know exactly where he's taking you, and the meter is still running

Because they want to come up with new ideas, instead of the regressive ideas conservatives continue to use, such as the "Trickle-down theory" the current president and those conservative presidents (reagan, daddy bush) continue to try to shove down people's throats making the country believe it actually works...

It's a smoke screen, just like everything else that comes out of their mouth. They don't want you to know who they really are. They should just admit that they are all Socialists. Most people all ready know it.

No -- independent concepts.

Progressives want change -- either general or in a specific direction.

Socialists want govt regulation of business and govt-sponsored social programs.

You can have one without the other, but you can have both -- many Democrats want both.
