Because he doesn't have an army of marketing people working for him. Nor do many great authors these days. The new Daniel Silva is debuting this week on the Times Bestseller list at #2. It was a great book. If he had half of JK Rowling's marketing support, his book would go off the charts. I haven't read Novak's but it's the same thing. I think more authors need to learn from JK. They need to start months in advance sending out hints and leaking information, then going to the media begging for the leaks to stop, then leaking something else, then more begging ... Could you imagine a Robert Novak midnight book party? I would come dressed as Valerie Plume Wilson. Or maybe Ann Coulter. Who would you be?? Pax - C

Harry Potter is the biggest "book fad" ever. No other book or author can hold a candle to it - at least, not since the release of Don Quijote de la Mancha (probably the first huge book fad).
