Okay had a heating problem before and it seems like my car doesn't want to stay cool, and i have done everything to make it work, i just replaced the radiator, and i had the fans repaired so they can come on but Im wondering if the water thats coming out of the overflow is because i have water in the reservoir instead of a mixture of antifreeze, is it because the water boils at a lower temperature. I have a new radiator, new reservoir, new thermostat, and my fans work. but i have it to where there are always on, because i couldn't find a fan harness for my car, but i doubt that the fan running is the problem cause it is cooling the car, and today it was hot outside and i was in stop and go traffic, for a while, and im wondering did that have an effect on the heat in the car, and should i just use antifreeze instead of the pure water. Someone help or could it be the worst a blown headgasket but i dont have signs of one yet at least i think. So someone please help me thanks!!!!

Blown head gasket. A common problem in Dodges (I should know), and a very expensive one to fix. First, stop putting water in there. Use antifreeze. If that doesn't help, take it in to a shop so they can run a diagnostic. You say the car doesn't show all the signs of a blown head gasket yet, but it will! And it happens very fast, so your best bet is to take it in and have a mechanic check it out, and there's a small possibility that something could be done, but it will cost you. Most mechanics will tell you to replace the head gasket. So get ready to empty your pockets. Good luck!

The coolant should be a mixture of 50/50 water and antifreeze. The antifreeze will raise the boiling point of the water and help it to carry away more heat. You should always run the mixture. Not only that, but the antifreeze will have additives to help with corrosion in the cooling system.
When you are stuck in traffic, and it is very hot, if the temp of the engine starts to rise, turn off the air conditioner until you can get moving again and get some air through the cooling system.
good luck

I would never use regular water unless I have no choice.
Regular water wouldn't cause that. You either have air in the system which needs to be bled, or the water pump is bad...Head gasket is worst case scenario.
The 3.5L engines have timing belt-driven water pump. If you don't know how to work on or around the timing belt then take it to a mechanic.
Good luck!

OK here we go new thermostat, what about the reservoir cap, how old is it??, Keep the reservoir full and if it gets hot again try and find the leak you might have a top or bottom hose lose or has a hole in it , Take it to an auto shop and have the radiator pressure tested and go from there , hope this helps.

you either do have a bad thermostat in it or it has a blown head gasket ,the gasket can blow in a water jacket, and cause the system to over pressure its self, this is what forces the air in to the system, and causes it to do that ,you need to take it and have a compression check done on it,this will quickly tell you if it has a blown gasket, from what you said it does sound like its bad,it or the head one is bad on it,good luck on it.

you should always have antifreeze in your radiator. no matter what!
I have 3 intrepids and dont have your problem.
does your A/C work? do you want to swap yours for mine or get all ours together and out of 4 intrepids we probably could put together 2 perfectly working cars, one for you and one for me. haha!
I still love Intrepids A/C problems or not! oh ad what size is your engine...mine are 2 - 3.3 liters and 1 - 2.7 liter
