The Pens were in the shootout quite a bit last year, thus a lot of their success can be accredited to shootout wins. Coach Michel Therrien has put in 2 constants (Christensen & Crosby) and has rotated the 3rd man a lot (Malkin, Recchi, Gonchar, Ruutu... I could be forgetting if there was anyone else.)

Erik Christensen is a given. Personally, I think the guy's on board now BECAUSE he's the go-to guy in the shootout. He hasn't proven himself to be entirely consistent during regulation (or OT for that matter) and I think he can put up more points, possibly play a little more physical.

I like that Therrien put Sid in the shootout until he found his mojo, basically. His logic was that he should have his best player in the shootout. He still went third though, "just in case" I suppose.

Who starts as the 2nd man this season? And who is the fourth guy?

My vote for the guy second in the order goes to Jarkko Ruutu. Haha, no bias from me, I'm serious. He's Erik Christensen's biggest competition in the shootout drills in practice. He had a good record with Vancouver, actually. Remember that penalty shot against the Leafs? And that slow-motion (LOL) move he pulled on Emery in the shootout? Put him in, MT!

Christensen first- he almost always scores and that can set the tone for the other shooters and fluster the goalie.

Second I would put whoever is doing well in that particular game.

And Crosby third. It took him awhile to score in a shootout last season, but once he got started he didn't stop.

If it went to a 4th shooter I would put in Rutuu, assuming he wasn't #2

Well, obviously Christensen should be first. 8/14 last year and 1/ the year before

Ruuti should probably be 2nd, 1/2 last year and 2/4 the year before.

As for third, I would take Malkin over Crosby, Crosby is only 7/21 in career shootout attempts and only once in his career has he had shootout goals in consecutive shootouts (and it was a 3 game streak in mid December to January). Malkin is more of a goal-scorer than Crosby.

Christensen, Recchi, Crosby, then if the needed Malkin. But definately Christensen, he was somewhere around 16 for 18 on shoot outs.

Christensen
Malkin
Staal

Crosby is not a Goal Scorer, he is a play maker and you need a Goal Scorer for shootouts.
