Yes, it depends on the type of turtle, a dersert tortoise doesn't show until its about thirteen, but they get a inward curve on there lower shell, it helps when there mating, I'm not sure if its the same for a water turtle. you should call a vet and ask, i'm sure they would be able to tell you how you can check.

If it's a baby then u cant any ways if its a male then it has long nails in front
