found it in my 4.5 month old son's draw on his clothes. we live in NJ.

It's some sort of beetle. Never seen it before, but I'm betting it is harmless. What I do know is that it is not a tick.

I found your beetle. It is a spider beetle called gibbium aequinoctiale. Here are some pictures for comparison:

I don't know but it doesn't look like the ticks we have around here. Ticks are flatter and don't have the long antenna things on the head.

I couldn't tell from the picture whether the tick was red or brown, so take a look at the pictures on this website and see if one looks like the one you saw.
