Ok I'm past my due date 7/31 I'm 80% effaced still but still just at a 3 dilated. My question my panties and pants are wet. (like i didnt quite make it to the bathroom in time and dribbled) but i didnt pee my pants I already changed my clothes today so this is the second one that got wet. Could this be leaking or is it just liquidy discharge? And YES I KNOW TO CALL THE DR. I already called up there but the rude person I got told me that if it broke i would know and my dr. is on vacation this week. I would appreciate your opinions..thoughts??
But please refrain from sarcastic or rude answers
Thanks in advance!!

If it happens again it means your water broke. Its not like the movies.... it really only comes out like 2 teaspoons at a time and as time goes by it happens more and more often! GOOD LUCK! I am sooo sorry you havent popped yet. I know you want this really bad! As do I missy!

Your water has broken. It isn't always a rush like in the movies. It's usually just a trickle that is more when you lie down because baby's head isn't blocking it. Drink lots of fluid and call the rude person back to tell them he/she's an idiot and your water has broke. You can even say it like that, "you're an idiot, you don't even know what the signs of a woman's membranes rupturing are! My water has broke. It broke sometime earlier today. What do you want me to do?"

Don't let anyone do a vaginal exam on you now that your membranes have ruptured. Your chances of infection go way up with every vag exam. If you're having regular contractions, you should definitely go to your birth location (if not home). If you're not having regular contractions yet, I suggest waiting it out. The worry there is that if you go to the hospital, they will put an arbitrary time limit on your labor because your water has broken. If you don't have a baby in your arms within 24 hours of your water breaking, they want to force baby out unnecessarily. Why? Because chances of infection are higher after that time. Why? Because they do too many vag exams and introduce bacteria. If you don't have any vag exams now that your membranes have ruptured, you should be able to make an informed and healthy choice of not allowing your labor to be augmented or unnecessarily interrupted. Since it has been all day since your water broke, you may be in for a few more days before labor kicks in all the way, which means it would be best not to have any vag exams, even at the hospital.

Of course, this is all things you should talk with your doctor/midwife/nurses about to let them know your choices, options, opinions, etc.

Good luck and happy birth wishes!

I know how you feel, similar situation happened to me...I can't believe that rude person who told you you'd know! I was leaking water and never went in because I was afraid I'd be embarrassed and it was only pee. But it ended up that I WAS leaking water...it was barely enough for me to wear a panty liner, but it was a slow leak. I went into labor a few days afterwards and when my water broke barely any came out and the dr. said that it was leaking and that's why. I'd call triage...you will go in and they have a test they do to see if its urine or amniotic fluid. Its quick and not embarrassing at all. They just swipe the fluid with this test strip and it shows up a certain color depending what it is. I'd go in, that rude person that answered the phone should be reported! because the truth is, if your water broke you will know BUT if your water is leaking you don't always know...
ALso, try the "cough" test...put your hand/finger down there or else put a clean pantyliner on...give a hearty cough and if fluid comes out when you cough then its most likely fluid, not urine! :)
Good luck to you!

Not comfortably. And you may lose fish from stress. If you can, get for a tote. Like the big plastic ones you can slide under the bed or store in the garage. I mention them because a lot of people have them just laying around. Throw a filter on it and it makes a decent temporary tank. Just make sure they're clean. Also do not fill it up the whole way or the sides will fail and you'll have a new mess. In either case, over filter and don't feed them. Do what you can and good luck. Hope your fish come out okay.

Go to the hospital. Everybody's experience is different and your water will not necessarily gush out..it may leak. Don't let the ignorant person you spoke with cause you to second guess yourself. You called for a reason, because you know something isn't exactly normal. Your doc is on vacation so just go to the hospital. That's only my opinion and what I would do. Good luck...I wish you all the best.

Don't you just hate it when people act like that? I get soooo mad!

I would go to the hospital. They can do a paper litmus (sp?) test and/or slide test to tell if your water is leaking. Ignore the rude person!!! With my first 2 kids my water leaked, just enough that I knew it wasn't pee...I had just finished going to the bathroom, wiped and all of the sudden another little trickle, went to the hospital and wouldn't you know it, my water had leaked. Sounds like yours is leaking to me. The only time I felt a gush was when I was laying on my back and the dr broke it for me.

Best of luck to you!!!

Your amniotic sac could have a leak, and just hasnt broke yet. I was induced so I dont know what it is like to naturally have your water break, but I was leaking for about 1 week prior to giving brith. It was a slow leak, but it was a leak, I needed to wear depends, hey nobody says that pregnancy is glamorous. Even if your Dr is on Vaca, and you are truly concerned, go to the emergency room. Since you are past your due date they might give you petocin to get you going. Petocin induces you. Oh and good luck and congrats

i believe your water broke because once your water breaks there is an initial gush of water, then a continuous slow leakage after that. That would explain why you had to change your underwear more than once. I know you may want to labor at home some but your supposed to go to the hospital as soon as your water breaks. Don't call anyone else. Just go and they will test your discharge to see if it's amniotic fluid.

the emergency card i have for the dr says to go to labor and delivery if your water breaks OR leaks. Dont let that rude person keep you from going to the hospital. If i was you i would go, what could happen? you not be in labor and they send you home? sounds alot better than you waiting and not making it to the hospital in tome! and is it just me or do drs always take vacations when your baby is due?

It sounds like a small hole in the bag of waters, this causes slow leaking. Get up and walk around to get things moving along. Put on a pad to keep your underwer and pants from getting soaked. Good luck.
