Not sure about Clinton's involvement in all this, though he did gut the military and turn a blind eye to terror attacks against America and our armed forces.

But as for right now, according to DoT Secretary Mary Peters, under President Bush's watch there are billions of dollars available for road & bridge repairs. One wonders why the Democrats in Minnesota waited until today to ask for some, and why their Peanut Gallery liberals are squealing that it's all Bush's fault that the bridge collapsed ... even though those funds are available?

Simple answer for those who do research instead of typing tired old political rhetoric.

There is a Federal Bridge Program that provides matching funds to States to repair bridges on a 50/50 basis.

From 1992 to 2000 the budget of the Federal Bridge Program averaged 2.5 billion dollars.

From 2001 to 2007 the budget of the Federal Bridge Program averaged 4.3 billion dollars.

But in not one year, did any State use most of its matching funds. States have used an average of just 40% of the Federal Bridge Program funds every year.

It's a State issue, the Federal Funds have been there.

And to the answerer who stated that Republicans controlled congress from 1992 to 2007.

How can anyone take an answer seriously, when someone answering questions in the politics section, doesn't even know what party controlled congress.

Since you evidently don't know what party controled congress each year, i'll tell you.

Control of Congress":

1993 -1994 Democratic Party
1995- 2000 Republican Party
2001-2002 Republican House,
Senate went from Republican Control in Janurary 2001, to Democratic Control in May 2001.

2003 - 2006 Republican Party
2007 - Democratric Party

Border protection has doubled each and every 4 years because of the fact the 80s. we are in no way going to construct a border that reduces unlawful crossings to 3 thousand. The East Germans purely completed that via conserving approximately 60 brokers in step with mile of border in a 2 mile buffer full of partitions, cord, mines, traps and look after towers. that could be 0.5 a million men and countless different trillion money to us.

Clinton was going to right after he finished his cigar, but he diverted all that money to his defense fund (first president ever to establish such a fund)

Shhhh, no one is supposed to know about Nancy's illegals and my guess is that Feinstein's husband will get the contract to repair the bridge

Edit: Note to Mitchell, the reason we keep bringing Clinton up 7 years after he left office is because he destroyed most of what we had and we are still reeling from it.
To the folks asking why Bush didn't give any money, he did
about $250,000,000.
The bigger question is why didn't MN fix the bridge back in 1990 when it was identified as having problems and was on an inspection list to be done every year. 17 years and you want to blame Bush!!

Are you frigging liberals so dumb that you don't even realize that it is the STATES responsibility to repair the bridges, the Federal government has grant money to assist the states, all the state has to do is to apply for this money.

For Gods sake read the link below and learn something for once in your life.

Note to dinodino, Yes the governor of MN is a Republican but tell me, if problems were discovered in 1990 why didn't Rudy Perpich or James Janos (Jessie Ventura) fix the bridge?
The Congress was not controlled by the Republicans until 1994 when Clinton lost Democratic control for the first time in 42 years. I assume that you will be in the 8th grade when school starts.

EDIT: go ahead give me the thumbs down, you dumb@sses know that I'm right or at least you will after you come down off of the dope you have been smoking.

Note to Hypofocus: The reason that the Republicans voted down Clinton's proposal is because it had huge tax increases in it, he should have proposed it before he lost the majority in Congress.

The President doesn't allocate funding Congress does. The Congress was controlled by Republicans 1994 - 2006. Clinton has been out of office for six years. Perhaps some of the Trillion dollars spent on Iraq might have been used for that purpose.

PS The Governor of Minnesota is a Republican.

1. Clinton's defense was not funded by the government, but by private funds. The PROSECUTION was funded by the government though.

2. Even if he had stolen money in Whitewater, which exhaustive investigations showed he hadn't, it didn't involve government funds.

3. Nancy Pelosi isn't Clinton.

4. Nor is Harry Reid.

5. This is one of the lamest of the lame questions in a long time.

And finally, the clicker:

6. Bill Clinton did propose INCREASES in intrastructure funding - but the Republican-controlled Congress shot them down. D'oh!

Why did our current President George Bush not do that? I mean Clinton has not been in office for seven years and I think it is the job of the CURRENT president to allocate funds like that.

Wow, way to go troll.

Lets go back in time 7 years! While we're at it, lets stop Hitler from coming to power!

And LOL at you for pinning lying on Clinton while Bush lied through his teeth for Iraq.

Hi, why doesn't Georgie use his final year to fix all the bridges in the US? Oh, thats right, he spent almost all of the Budget surplus from Slick Willy's administration on Iraq.

Infrastructure upgrades in general are boring.
The steam pipe issue is also important, but out of sight out of mind.
Both parties share blame on this.
