I´ll be driving with kids and in order not to make too tired the journey I want to stop and rest in a hotel in a middle point between those cities going on Freeway 5. Please recommend me and give me special instructions if necessary. Thanks.

Depending on how old your children are you might be able to do it in a day. If you go non-stop the trip is just about 8 hours, depending on your exact starting-stopping points. If you plan a few stops you can actually do it in about 10 hours. I've done this trip with my daughter since she was 4 and it has been no problems.

Make sure you have entertainment, this includes things like Portable DVD players, activity books, or books to read. As there is about a 3 hour stretch through the central valley that there are few places to stop and the scenery is basically farm land.

If you were to stop somewhere you should look at Valencia or Santa Clarita. These are the first major cities you will hit after the central valley, and is just north of LA. You will find several hotels/motels in this area as this is where Six Flags Magic Mountain is located.

BTW: Fresno is off of the CA-99 so that will NOT be an option for you. Also, by the time you got to San Clemente you are less than an hour from San Diego so that would not be worth stopping there just as a rest point.

There are plenty of passions to pursue in San Diego and that hotelbye is the area to begin discovers what San Diego must offer. In the San Diego holiday you will stage outside of your comfort zone and you will discover new actions while you are here and you might just see that obtaining a fresh pursuit is an adventure in itself. One of the places should see from San Diego is Balboa Park. That park has over a 1400 acre and here you can find old structures, numerous museums, gardens, and natural space. The park was designed for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The prevalent structure is Spanish-Mexican model, low stage buildings that merge with the organic surroundings. Among the highlights of the park will be the Botanical Gardens and lily pool, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Even though you never go into a building the park is simply a beautiful place.

Ive made this drive dozens of times, the half way point ends up being on 5 still far north of Valencia, Fresno is off the 5 so you will kill time going east then back...I recommend the Flying J travel stop in Fraizer Park, its about 115 miles from LA and its ON the 5 , makes you just over 200 miles from SD... maybe 40 mins north of valencia...this will have you more than half way there and a stones throw from the freeway, next to the travel stop is a motel which will work out perfectly for you, some fast food places and a restaurant in the Flying J...remember to stay hydrated and alert, enjoy your trip and good luck!

I've done that drive before and stopped in Lost Hills, which is a little bit more than a truck stop. I stayed at the Motel 6 for about $40 a night. No amenities but it was a comfortable place to sleep. I hit the road at 7 am and was in San Franscisco by about 10:30 am, late enough to miss the morning drive time traffic but early enough to have the day ahead of me. Mind you, it won't be a "fun" "luxurious" experience, but if all you're expecting is a bed, a shower, and a roof over your head, you'll be fine.

San Clemente is way to close to San Diego if you're trying to make it to San Francisco. I'd look into maybe Fresno.
